F.A.R.A.H Community House Association stands as a vital resource for Farsi-speaking women in Greater Vancouver who have experienced domestic violence. We are more than just a shelter; we are a community, a support system, and a pathway to healing and empowerment. Our comprehensive range of programs and services are designed to address the unique needs of this vulnerable population, providing not only immediate safety but also the tools and resources necessary to rebuild lives and create a future free from violence.
At the heart of our services is our shared transition house. This safe and confidential residence provides a temporary home for women and their children who are fleeing abusive situations. The transition house offers a supportive and nurturing environment where women can begin to heal from the trauma of violence and start the process of rebuilding their lives. Residents have access to individual and group counseling, legal resources, job training, and assistance with finding permanent housing. The residency policy allows for stays of up to six months, providing ample time for women to stabilize their situation and develop a plan for their future.
Our counseling services are provided by trained professionals who understand the unique challenges faced by Farsi-speaking women. Counselors offer individual and group therapy sessions, providing a safe space for women to process their experiences, develop coping mechanisms, and build self-esteem. We recognize that trauma can manifest in many different ways, and our counselors are skilled in addressing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and relationship difficulties. Counseling is offered in Farsi, ensuring that language is not a barrier to accessing this vital service.
Beyond immediate shelter and counseling, F.A.R.A.H. recognizes the importance of empowering women with knowledge and resources. We offer a variety of educational workshops that cover topics such as legal rights, personal safety, financial literacy, and parenting skills. These workshops are designed to equip women with the information and skills they need to navigate the complexities of the Canadian legal and social systems, protect themselves and their children, and achieve financial independence. We also connect women with legal resources, assisting them in understanding their rights and accessing legal aid if needed.
Our “F.A.R.A.H Voices: Breaking the Silence” outreach program is a critical component of our work. This initiative aims to raise awareness about domestic violence within the Farsi-speaking community, challenging harmful cultural norms and encouraging open dialogue about this often-stigmatized issue. Through workshops, community events, and multimedia platforms, we strive to educate the community about the signs of abuse, the resources available to survivors, and the importance of supporting those who are experiencing violence. We believe that by breaking the silence surrounding domestic violence, we can create a more supportive and understanding environment for survivors.
Job training is another key aspect of our services. We understand that financial independence is crucial for women to break free from the cycle of violence and build a sustainable future for themselves and their children. Our job training programs provide women with the skills and confidence they need to enter or re-enter the workforce. We offer assistance with resume writing, interview skills, and job searching, and we partner with local businesses and organizations to provide job placement opportunities.
F.A.R.A.H Community House Association is committed to continuous growth and improvement. Our future vision includes expanding our services to include therapeutic support programs, vocational training, and community engagement initiatives. We are dedicated to creating a comprehensive network of support that empowers Farsi-speaking women to not only survive but thrive. We believe that every woman deserves the opportunity to live a life free from violence, and we are committed to making that vision a reality. We welcome support in all forms, from volunteering, to donations, to simply spreading the word. We have provided a “safety exit” button at the top-right of the page.
